Take a Child to Work Day and Beyond: Junior Achievement Inspires Future Generations of Workers
At Junior Achievement (JA), we’re thrilled to announce a new chapter for the iconic event Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work Day. On April 24, 2025, this event will officially evolve into Take a Child to Work Day and Beyond by Junior Achievement, which is being presented by Staples. This groundbreaking change is designed to encourage participation from all children, families, and caregivers, regardless of their background or circumstances.
Why the Change?
Junior Achievement is proud to assume leadership of this vital work readiness initiative, originally founded as Take Your Daughter to Work Day in 1993. Over the past three decades, the event has introduced millions of young people to the concept of work and career possibilities. Now, through Take a Child to Work Day and Beyond, we’re expanding this experience to ensure every child has the opportunity to learn about the world of work—whether they’re able to visit a parent’s workplace or not.
As part of our continued efforts to inspire the next generation, JA’s new approach will open doors for children to experience work life in meaningful ways. Whether it’s through a visit to a workplace, a virtual experience, or through hands-on activities, the day is all about showing children what’s possible in their future careers.
Empowering the Next Generation of Workers
This year’s theme, “For A New Generation,” speaks to the unique challenges that today’s youth face. In a fast-paced, digital, and interconnected world, students need more than just textbook knowledge—they need hands-on learning experiences that provide insight into what it truly means to work and succeed in the modern economy.
By participating in Take a Child to Work Day and Beyond, students will have the chance to interact with professionals in a wide variety of fields. These interactions not only give them exposure to potential career paths, but they also allow them to connect with role models who can help make their future goals feel more attainable.
The Importance of Experiential Learning
At Junior Achievement, we’ve always believed in the power of experiential learning—and this event is the perfect example. By immersing kids in real-world work scenarios, they gain critical insights into the challenges and rewards of various professions. And it’s not just the kids who benefit—caregivers and volunteers get the chance to share their experiences, fostering a sense of connection and mentorship that can last a lifetime.
Participating companies also benefit by reinforcing positive corporate cultures, emphasizing the value of teamwork, and contributing to community development. Volunteers and professionals involved in the event will have the opportunity to mentor the next generation of workers, sharing their wisdom and advice.
Supporting Families and Communities
One of the core goals of Take a Child to Work Day and Beyond is to support all children, including those who may not otherwise have access to workplace experiences. Whether due to geographic, economic, or other barriers, many young people never have the opportunity to visit a parent’s office or learn about different professions. Junior Achievement’s expanded version of this event will ensure that all kids, regardless of their situation, can benefit from exposure to the workplace.
A Commitment to the Future of Work
Junior Achievement’s vision for Take a Child to Work Day and Beyond goes far beyond just one day. Our mission is to inspire young people to consider their future careers and equip them with the skills they need to succeed in a rapidly changing world. The support of Staples, the presenting sponsor, aligns perfectly with our shared vision for the future.
“Staples is honored to partner with Junior Achievement on this important initiative,” said John Lederer, CEO of Staples, Inc. “We believe in the power of experiential learning and, as experts in the world of work, we are excited to help create a day that connects young people with the workplace in ways that will shape their futures as the experts of tomorrow.”
Looking Ahead
Junior Achievement is eager to make Take a Child to Work Day and Beyond a transformative experience for children and families across the country. We invite parents, caregivers, professionals, and volunteers from every industry to get involved and help shape the future of the next generation.
Through this expanded initiative, Junior Achievement will continue to open doors for young people, ensuring they gain a greater understanding of the world of work and all the possibilities that lie ahead. Together, we can empower the next generation of workers to follow their dreams, build their futures, and create a brighter tomorrow for all.
