1960

As the nation underwent transformative changes during the Civil Rights Movement, the Space Race, and rapid economic growth, Junior Achievement (JA) expanded its reach. It introduced business education and practical career experiences to a broader student population than ever before. Through JA’s initiatives, a new generation was equipped with the essential skills, confidence, and entrepreneurial mindset required to thrive in an ever-evolving world. In 1960, JA had 139 operating areas. By the 50th anniversary in 1969, JA was operating in all 50 states. The first JA Company manual for advisers and Achievers was developed. In 1961, a committee was established to study international relationships and formulate policy for the National Board’s consideration. In 1967, JA of Canada separated completely from JA Inc. and was established as an entirely independent organization. JA of Mexico was established in 1960, but the challenges faced by communities in South America were too significant to overcome, and this period of international expansion ended after about six months.
