JA’s connection to business leadership has long been a keystone to our success. t was critical to our national expansion. Charles R. Hook, as both President of the National Association of Manufactures and President of Armco Steel. Mr. Hook thoroughly investigated the program and the people involved. He approached Horace Moses (then President of JA Inc.) to expand JA on a national basis. Mr. Hook and Mr. Moses co-sponsored a meeting at the Union League Club in New York City, inviting business leaders to hear more about JA and the potential to form a national expansion committee. Just some attending that meeting included: S. Bayard Colgate, Chairman of Colgate-Palmolive-Peet; Roy W. Moore, President of Canada Dry Ginger Ale, Inc.; T.J. Watson, President of IBM; Malcolm Muir, President of Newsweek; and 46 others bearing the title of President or Chairman. The kickoff meeting of this committee was held at the Waldorf-Astoria Hotel on December 5, 1941, with 751 in attendance. Leaders were ready to spread JA throughout the nation. Little did they know that the Japanese strike force would attack Pearl Harbor 48 hours later, and the US would declare war.

JA Hall of Fame Winners

The JA Professional Staff Hall of Fame is awarded to former JA staff professionals whose long-term dedication, commitment, and exceptional accomplishments made a significant impact on the organization and created a foundation for the current organization. Laureates are role models and set standards of accomplishment and behavior to which current and future JA staff should aspire. The process is managed by the JA Staff Alumni Network.

Jim Sweeny Entrepreneurial Award Winners

A $2,000 scholarship is awarded to a JA Company Program student in recognition of his or her accomplishments, role in their JA Company, and entrepreneurial potential.

Karl Flemke Award Winners

The Karl Flemke Award is given annually at the JA National Leadership Conference. This award goes to a first-time Junior Achievement president who has demonstrated an outstanding contribution to and achievement with the organization.
